How to disable scrubbing (the ability to fast-forward a video)

We’re currently exploring Compozer for building our eLearning courses and had a quick question. Is there a way to prevent learners from skipping ahead in a video? Basically, we’d like to stop them from scrubbing or fast-forwarding past the parts they haven’t watched yet.

Is that something Compozer supports?

Hi there,

Yes, Compozer does give you control over that! If you’ve uploaded your video directly into Compozer, you can easily disable forward seeking so learners can’t skip ahead.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Click on the video within your block to bring up the settings panel on the right-hand side.

  2. Scroll down through the settings until you find the “Disallow forward seeking” toggle.

  3. Simply switch this on - that will prevent learners from jumping ahead to sections of the video they haven’t watched yet.

Once this setting is turned on, learners will only be able to watch the video in sequence, keeping your pacing and flow exactly as intended.

See the screenshot below for where to find that option in your video settings.

Thank you!

Is there also a way to turn off scrubbing for the entire course… making the user have to do all the interactions, do every knowledge check etc.?

Great question! Compozer doesn’t have a global “disable scrubbing” switch for the entire course, but you can control progression where it really matters.

Right now, you can require learners to complete all knowledge checks before they’re allowed to move on. Just enable “Require correct answer to continue” at the question level, and learners won’t be able to advance until they’ve answered each check correctly. That effectively stops them from skipping ahead through the learning path.

For other types of interactions (like click-to-reveal, tabs, carousels, etc.), Compozer doesn’t currently force completion before moving forward - but your instructional design can strongly guide the flow. Many designers structure lessons so the key interactions naturally funnel the learner through the content in the intended order.

If you’d like to see full course-level scrubbing controls in the future, definitely submit a feature request from your Compozer dashboard - it helps the product team prioritise enhancements.
