Is it possible to disable fast forwarding on a YouTube embedded video?

I embedded a YouTube video into my Compozer course. Now I’m trying to find a way to stop learners from skipping ahead. I know you can restrict scrubbing when the video is uploaded directly, but is there any workaround for doing this with an embedded YouTube video?

Good question - yes, there’s a simple workaround for that when using embedded YouTube videos in Compozer.

When you generate your embed code from YouTube:

  1. Click the “Share” button under your video, then choose “Embed.”

  2. In the popup, uncheck the option that says “Show player controls.”

    • This disables YouTube’s playback controls, meaning learners will only be able to play or pause the video — they won’t be able to scrub forward or skip ahead.
  3. Copy the iframe code provided.

  4. In Compozer, add an Embed block and paste that iframe code into the embed field.

Once you publish or preview your course, the embedded YouTube video will appear with limited controls, keeping learners from jumping ahead.

(See the screenshot below for where to find the embed options.)
