I’d like to create a long course (~8 hours). Due to the length, I would like to have chapters with lessons, rather than a long list of lessons. Is there a way to structure a course with chapters that hold lessons?
We’ve got a couple of courses that run long like that. There’s no chapter option in Compozer, a course is just a list of lessons, but you can make it look and feel like chapters and most learners won’t know the difference. What we do is number the lesson names, so 1.1, 1.2, 1.3 then 2.1, 2.2 and so on with the chapter name sitting in the title. The menu groups itself visually when you do that. Then at the start of each chapter we put a lesson that’s just one Hero block, chapter name, a line about what’s coming up and a button through to the first lesson of that chapter. Takes 5 mins to build, it breaks up that long list and people know where they are when they come back to it the next day. Honestly at 8 hours though I’d look at breaking it into separate courses, one per chapter, and stacking them in your LMS as a learning path. 8 hours in one package is a lot to ask someone to resume into and the bookmarking gets unreliable on some LMSs. Plus you can update chapter 3 without republishing the whole thing. Either way keep your lessons to 15 or 20 mins and the menu does the work for you.
Great ideas. Thanks a lot for taking the time to help me out!
